ITANAGAR, March 18 - The Arunachal Pradesh Health Department today suggested to the State Election Commission to defer the forthcoming Panchayat and municipal elections in the State to prevent any possible spread of COVID-19.

This recommendation was given by State Surveillance Officer (IDSP) Dr Lobsang Jampa during a meeting convened by the State Election Commission to discuss issues relating to the ensuing Panchayat and urban local bodies (ULBs) elections.

The State Government has already banned mass gathering of people for any social, cultural, political or religious purposes, except marriages, till April 5.

Meanwhile, the Health Department has issued an advisory for students returning home.

All asymptomatic students returning to Arunachal Pradesh due to closure of their educational institutions are advised to practise social distancing by home quarantine for a period of 14 days, read the advisory.
