TURA, April 26 - A conglomeration of NGOs from Tura, including the GSU, FKJGP, ADE and AYWO, have written to the Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills district, Ram Singh, demanding closure of the NH-51 to trucks exporting stones from Bhutan to Bangladesh over allegations of overloading.

The overloaded trucks are causing damage to the road and the drivers are very rash and haphazard in their driving, said a release by the NGOs.

The NGOs further added that with the NH-51 being one of the two roads that connect the State capital, it is necessary to keep the road in a good condition.
