Call to allow resumption of night bus service

By The Assam Tribune

GUWAHATI, Aug 11 - The Agents and Luxury Bus Owners Association of Assam has urged the government to give permission for resumption of night bus services in the State.

The association also requested the government to allow inter-state movement of passenger vehicles with 100 per cent occupancy. It also demanded tax relief for two quarters from April 1 to September 30, as has been done by several states.

In a press release, Pradyumna Dutta and Anjit Bora, president and general secretary respectively of the association, also sought extension of the RBI moratorium on loan repayment. They pointed out that the luxury bus segment has been badly hit by the lockdown and has been incurring losses since March.

This sector is providing employment to several thousand individuals both directly and indirectly. Unless the government gives a relief package, it would be impossible for this segment of the transport industry to be back on track, the release added.
