Call off protest against Amit Shah: BJP to NGO

By CORRESPONDENT

AIZAWL, Sept 30 - Mizoram BJP president Prof JV Hluna on Monday appealed to civil societies in the state to call off their proposed protest against Union Home Minister Amit Shah who is scheduled to visit the state capital on October 5.

NGO Coordination Committee that comprises all major civil societies and two apex student organisations of Mizoram plans to hold a protest when Shah visits Aizawl.

Hluna appealed to the civil societies and other stakeholders to instead welcome Shah during his first visit to Mizoram after assuming office as Union Home Minister and to capitalise on his short visit to bring to his notice the needs and requirements of Mizoram.

As Amit Shah will be on an official tour, it will be a great opportunity to bring to him issues like the Bru repatriation, NRC, CAB and other needs of Mizoram, Hluna added.

The NGOs call for a protest was fuelled by the BJP governments commitment to reintroduce the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill.

The state BJP president, however, urged the civil societies to count on the governments assurance that there would be a separate clause for the North East. It would be fruitful if the NGO leaders ask the Home Minister to elaborate on how the CAB would not harm the North East, he said.
