Call for trade bandh in State tomorrow

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, March 21 - The Assam Chamber of Commerce (ACC) has appealed to the business community of the State as well as all trade establishments to observe a one-day vyapar bandh on March 23, shutting down all business activities from 6 am to 9 pm to promote social distancing in the wake of coronavirus outbreak.

The step, according to the ACC, would complement Prime Minister Narendra Modis call for janata curfew on March 22 to counter the spread of novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

ACC chairman Rupam Goswami said the step has been taken to discourage people coming out to markets, shops, etc., as a preventive measure. The trade bandh is our attempt to encourage social distancing amid growing concern about the spread of the virus through people coming from affected places, he added.

Meanwhile, the Indian Chamber of Commerce has extended its support to the janata curfew tomorrow asking people to strengthen their resolve to follow the advisories issued by the State and Central governments to fight the COVID-19 scourge.
