Call for proper honour to Dhiren Baruah for his contributions

GUWAHATI, June 2 - Senior journalist DN Chakravartty on Tuesday urged the Government of Assam to confer appropriate honour on Dhiren Baruah, founder president of Save Guwahati Build Guwahati (SGBG) and one of the oldest freedom fighters and social workers of the State, in recognition of his illustrious services to society.

�Baruah, who joined the country�s freedom movement under the leadership of Jaiprakash Narayan, Hem Baruah, Hareswar Goswami and Lakhyadhar Choudhury, has been actively involved in many social services apart from raising voice on several issues for the welfare of the people of Assam and Guwahati in particular.�

�Baruah, who will be 94 in September, has also rendered commendable services for the development of Guwahati city, first as a president of SGBG and later as the chairman of GMDA,� added Chakravartty.
