GUWAHATI, May 30 - Voluntary organisation Assam Public Works (APW) today alleged that for the past about two months the Chief Secretary of the State has been sitting on a court letter seeking permission to conduct investigation into an alleged scam worth Rs 3,000 crore, which involves top officials of the Agriculture Department of the State.
In a statement here, the voluntary organisation said that the Court of the Special Judge here had sent a letter to the Chief Secretary about two months back, seeking permission to conduct investigation into the above scam in a court case (No. 3/15) in this connection.
The court had sought permission of the Chief Secretary to conduct investigation against Agriculture Director Kabindra Barkotoky and his subordinates Majam Ali Akand and Upen Bora in connection with the above scam.
It also provided a list of the cases registered against the top officials of the Agriculture Department on the allegations of involving in huge scams. This includes the three cases against Kailash Chandra Talukdar (CID Case No. 56/14, dated 01/09/2014 on RKVY, BGERI scam involving an amount of Rs 700 crore; Special Court case No. 56/14 dated 31/10/2014 on the scam involving the same amount; ED Case No. 1/15 dated 30/05/2015 on the same scam involving the same amount), Special case (Case No. 3/15 dated 07/08/2015) registered against Kabindra Barkotoky, Majam Ali Akand, Upen Bora and contractor Sanowar Hussain of the M/s Star Agro Enterprise on a limestone scam involving an amount or Rs 28 crore.
Moreover, the list also contains the case registered with the CID (CR No. 474/15 dated 16/09/2015) in connection with the alleged recovery of a huge number of pump sets in the godown owned by the son of former Agriculture Minister Nilamani Sen Deka.
