Call for more seats in GU dept

By Correspondent

JALUKBARI, July 5 - The All India Environment Students Association (AIESA) today submitted a memorandum to the Vice Chancellor of Gauhati University calling for an increase in the seat capacity of the post-graduate (MSc) course of environmental science department, GU from the 2016-17 admission session.

Among all the State universities of Assam, only the GU has an environmental science department. Every year more than 300 candidates apply for PG course in environmental science at the GU. But due to limited seats (only 12), a large number of candidates remain deprived every year.

The Department of Environmental Science, Gauhati University, which was first established as an environmental research unit in 1978, was elevated to the status of an academic department in November, 1980 for teaching and research in environmental meteorology, environmental geophysics and environmental pollution.
