Call for introduction of crime law in school curriculum

By The Assam Tribune

Sualkuchi, Jan 5: If criminal law is introduced as a subject in school curriculium, it will help bring down the crime rate in society to a great extent.

This was stated by Justice Ajit Barthakur of the Gauhati High Court while addressing a seminar held at Dadara HSS a few days back.

The teachers can play a huge role in eradicating criminal offences, he added.

The crime rate is increasing in society due to ignorance of some people about crime laws, while some of those who are aware of these laws wilfully violate them in order to suit their self-interest. All in all, the ever growing crimial activities are causing a grave concern among the peace-loving people in society, he said.

Participating in the seminar, professor (Dr) Abani Kr Bhagabati of Gauhati Univesity recalled that some schools in Assam in the 19th and 20th centuries had produced great talents like Lakshminath Bezbaroa, Jyotiprasad Agarwala, Bishnu Prasad Rabha, Dr Bhupen Hazarika and many others.

Justice Barthakur also released a book during the seminar – Principal Paresh Baishya – edited by Dr Dayananda Pathak, former principal of Pragjyotish College, who was present in the seminar.

Earlier, the outgoing principal of Dadara HSS Paresh Baishya spoke a few words on the activities undertaken during his tenure.
