GUWAHATI, Oct 22 - The All Assam Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Birthday Celebration Committee celebrated the 75th anniversary of the proclamation of Azad Hind Sarkar here on Sunday.

Hundreds of people took part in the meeting held as part of the programme at Netaji Chowk in Paltan Bazar area. This was followed by hoisting of the national flag and the flag of Azad Hind Fouz.

Speaking on the occasion, social worker Ajay Dutta explained the history of the freedom movement and the role played by the Indian National Army (INA) in it. He called for inclusion of lessons on the life and activities of Netaji in the school syllabus of Assam.

It is a remarkable day for the country. But till now we have not taken any active step to make our new generation aware of the significance of the day. It is possible only by the inclusion of information on the life and history of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose in the school-level books, Dutta said.

The purpose of the meeting was explained by Sankar Chakravarty. The organiser of Sundays programme also requested the present government to give proper recognition to this auspicious day for information of the new generation.

The meeting, presided over by Debasish Sengupta, was attended by Nawaj Mallick, Biswajit Khound, Ahmed Hussain, Prithbi Dhar, Prantosh Roy and others.

A statement issued by the organiser said, It is the right time to correct the history from distortion. People of Assam will always remain grateful to Netaji for his active role in saving the State from inclusion in Pakistan during partition of India.
