Call for full-fledged Home Minister

By CORRESPONDENT

SILCHAR, May 5 Local MLA Susmita Dev today said that it is time the State must have a full-fledged Finance Minister and Home Minister for accelerating the pace of development and safety of the citizens.

While addressing the people here during the hunger strike by Katigorah MLA Ataur Rahman Majharbhuiya supporting the 12-hour Cachar bandh called by various associations against the merciless killings in the BTAD area, Susmita said that in 2012, when she visited the Kokrajhar and Chirang districts, not for a second did she feel whether they are legal or illegal immigrants. Those who have come from across the border must have encountered serious disturbances, she said.

Reacting to the criticisms against Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on the outbreak of violence in BTAD, Susmita said that the criticisms are natural reactions. One, who has the power, has the responsibility too, Susmita was quoted as saying. She was quick to add that if she would have skipped this protest because of the scathing remarks on the Chief Minister, it was better for her to leave politics. I am not into politics to serve any minister. I will follow people and their sentiments, the Dev scion said.

Moreover, Susmita said that even as all the parties talk tall on solving the D-voter issue, none of these parties have actually studied the phenomenon. Legally speaking, the issue has to be raised in the Parliament and also in the floor of the Assembly about which she gave positive assurances to the masses.
