GUWAHATI, April 12 - The Guardian Association of Private/Public Undertakings� School Students today called for urgent steps to constitute a State Fee Regulatory Board to rein in private school authorities in the greater interest of students and guardians.
The association said in a statement here that in the absence of such a regulatory board, it has become a regular practice of the authorities of private schools to hike tuition and other fees like readmission and renewal fees at the slightest pretext.
Though the authorities of these schools are doing it in the name of providing quality education and improvement in infrastructure facilities, these exercises appear to be nothing but the means of fleecing the guardians, alleged the association.
The association also called for steps to ensure determination of the syllabus of these schools in line with SCERT and NCERT up to Class VIII without leaving any room for the authorities of these schools to bring in frequent changes in their syllabi.
Moreover, it said the issues related to the safety of the students of these schools should also be ensured through a strict monitoring system.
The association demanded that the authorities of these schools should make public as to what salaries they are paying to each of their teachers and non-teaching staff members. These schools should also make public their individual fees-related information for the last five-year period.
Each of these schools should also have their individual guardians� association and at least two representatives of such associations should be included in the management committee of each of these schools, said the association.
