DIBRUGARH, May 12 � Underlining the value of information, Gautam Gandhi, the vice president of Google India has called for ethical handling of information so that it created a positive impact on society.
�Information is power, and responsibility is closely connected with it. The power of information should be handled in an ethical way so that society is helped towards positive development,� Gandhi said while delivering the keynote address during a programme entitled �Tech-Talk� at Dibrugarh University auditorium on the topic �Innovation through Information Technology with reference to Google: Prospects and Opportunities for NE India�.
The Google India Vice President said that one must overcome all constraints and barriers to make dreams turn into reality, stating that only dreamers think of the impossible things and innovation comes about only after such a process. He said that the recent development of technology had empowered an individual to access any �programme� or software anywhere in the world at anytime. �Likewise one can distribute his or her �programme� by the use of recent technology which was quite unimaginable about 10 years ago. The concept of �personalisation of news through social networking sites in a way shows the beauty of the information�, Gandhi said.
The programme was inaugurated by Professor KK Deka, Vice Chancellor, Dibrugarh University. In his speech, the Vice Chancellor emphasised on the growing importance of communication technology in day to day life. The welcome address was delivered by Professor MN Dutta, Registrar, Dibrugarh University. K K Nath, Resident Chief Executive, Oil India Limited, Duliajan, the chief guest of the programme also shared thoughts about the recent development in the communication technology and its influence on the lives of the people. MK Yadav, managing director of AMTRON, spoke on �Development of Open Source Software�. He also took part in an interaction with the students of the university.
