SIPAJHAR, Feb 12 � The public of greater Sipajhar area in Darrang district have urged the Chief Minister to declare Sipajhar as a subdivision, a new list for which will be published soon.
The Sipajhar Yuvak Santha, AASU unit, AJYCP unit, Sipajhar Sahitya Sabha, NSUI, Sipajhar Press Guild, Krishak Sangha and Lekhika Samaroh, etc have been making this demand from time to time since 1985.
Already a subdivision demand committee has been formed and agitations have been launched in this regard. The committee in a memorandum submitted to the Chief Minister mentioned that Sipajhar is situated 20 km away from Mangaldoi and 20 km from Baihata Chariali, Kamrup. The thickly populated area is spread across Kurua to Bonmajha with Sipajhar being the middle place which will be convenient from all side. Already different subdivisional offices like Executive Engineer�s office, PWD, Electricity, irrigation, Agriculture, Health, etc have been established and for the setting up of other offices, government land is available in Sipajhar. It is also mentioned in the memorandum that in the Sipajhar LAC, there are 25 GPs, two revenue circles, namely Sipajhar and Patharighat and seven mouzas are already functioning.
