Call for caution against fire hazards

By City Correspondent

GUWAHATI, March 9 - The State Fire and Emergency Services has urged the general people to take all precautionary measures to avoid fire hazards during the current dry season.

According to an official statement, due to the drought-like situation in Assam and its neighbouring states, incidents of fire increase in forest areas, houses, offices, industries, market areas, etc. In recent days there has been a rise in fire incidents caused by inflammable chemical substances, electrical short circuits and easily available combustible materials.

In order to prevent fire incidents and to reduce loss of life and property, the department has urged the people to be careful while lighting earthen lamps, candles, etc., not to throw burning cigarette butts, bidis, lighted matches, etc., here and there without dousing the flame and to use electrical appliances at home properly.

Never leave temporary or naked joints on wiring and examine the electrical connections regularly and combustible materials like firewood, haystacks, straw, inflammable and explosive chemicals and oil have to be stored in safe places, the statement added.
