By Staff Correspondent

SILCHAR, Dec 14 - In what could be called a dream come true moment, Nilotpal Chakraborty (29) and Vidyut Singha (27) from Udharbond constituency of Cachar district became Lieutenants in the Indian Army.

A release issued from the IMA said 395 Gentlemen Cadets of 147 Regular Course and 130 Technical Graduate Course, including 70 Gentlemen Cadets from nine friendly countries successfully passed out from the Indian Military Academy (IMA) in Dehradun. There were six cadets from Assam in the 147 Regular Course.

Congratulating the Gentlemen Cadets on successful completion of their training at the IMA during the passing out parade, Vice Chief of Army Staff Lt Gen SK Saini said, You are just a step away from the historic and magnificent moment of your commissioning into the most elite forces. Let me adjure you to value the great traditions of the Indian Army, the basic tenets of which are the love for your country, love and compassion for the men you command and unflinching loyalty towards them.

Speaking to The Assam Tribune, Nilotpal, who is now posted in the 28 Army Air Defence Regiment, said, I had dreamt of this moment since Class 1. It was during my childhood when I told my father Nilmoni Chakraborty, who is a tea garden employee, about my dream of joining the defence services.

I did my schooling from Dr Radha Krishnan Academy in Jalalpur, close to the Indo-Bangla border and had the opportunity to watch how the BSF jawans guarded our borders. The experience along with patriotism added to my desire to join the services. I kept chasing my dream and today it is a wonderful feeling. My parents have told me to always dedicate my actions for the country, he said.

Both Nilotpal and Vidyut had joined the Indian Army as jawans in 2012. They later got enrolled in the 147 Regular Course in 2017.
