Cachar Paper Mill revival urged

HAILAKANDI, Jan 12 - The Joint Secretary of Union Heavy Industries Ministry, R K Singh, inspected the Cachar Paper Mill (CPM) of Hindustan Paper Corporation (HPC) at Panchgram in Hailakandi district on Thursday and took stock of the situation of the mill. Later he held a discussion with the CMD of the mill, Sachikanta Jain, CEO Hirak Kanti Sen, HR manager Arindam Roy, INTUC and BMS�s representatives Manabendra Chakraborty, Najmul Islam, Dilip Suklabaidya, Ajijur Rahman Laskar, Sebananda Das, Abdul Hannan, among others.

All the officials and representatives of unions and contractors explained the problems of the mill and urged the Joint Secretary to take immediate steps for the starting of production in the mill. They also highlighted the various problems of the mill before him.

Singh in reply informed that he would submit detailed report to the concerned authorities and they would take the decision. The contractors of the mill also urged the joint secretary to clear their outstanding dues as most of them are facing unprecedented financial crisis due to the non-payment of the bills.

Various non-governmental organisations of the locality also met the Joint Secretary and handed over a memorandum demanding to start the production of the mill immediately. They also highlighted the bleak future of the large number of employees and labourers of the mill due to the uncertainty of the production from the last few years.
