SILCHAR, Oct 16 - Since 1966, officials and staff of the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Cachar, have been offering prayers to Goddess Durga at the premises of the District Court. Continuing the legacy, Deputy Commissioner Dr S Laxmanan performed the sankalpa rituals on Mahasaptami.
Expressing his happiness, Dr Laxmanan said, when I took charge in 2017, I could barely realise the rich history of this Puja across Assam. Having spent a year now, I am delighted to be performing the sankalpa rituals on this auspicious occasion.
On the other hand, in the words of Bikramjit Chakraborty, state general secretary of Zila Prashasan Karmachari Santha, this is the sole Puja administered by the office of the Deputy Commissioner across all the DC offices in the State. The venue of this Puja was relocated from Gandhi Bag to its present premise in 1966 owing to floods. Since then, the Deputy Commissioner, by virtue of the chair, heads the proceedings of the Puja.
He added to inform that clothes were distributed to the needy as a part of the Puja celebrations as well. All officers and staff of the office of the Deputy Commissioner take part in the celebrations, Chakraborty said.
It may be mentioned that Durga Puja is being solmenised with great fervour at the Sonai Circle office as well. Over 50 pujas have been organised across Sonai constituency this year.
Meanwhile, with weather clearing up, Puja revellers made a beeline to the pandals across the district on Mahasaptami. With limited resources at hand, the traffic personnel in the city are literally finding it tough to manage the additional rush during the Puja days. However, Additional SP Rakesh Reddy said that vigil is being maintained and No Entry points are being manned as per priority. While Surgical Strike along the PoK is the theme chosen by Mitali Sangha for their puja over a massive pond at Radha Madhav road, idols and illumination of Deshabandhu Road Puja pandal, Madhya Sahar Sarvajanin puja pandal, All Medical Sales People Puja pandal, Tarun Club, Rakhi Sangha, Dakshin Bilpar Puja committee, Pratham Palli, Kali Mohan Road and Ananda Parishad are pulling great crowds. Devotees in large numbers offered pushpanjali to the Mother Goddess at Ramkrishna Mission.
