SILCHAR, May 8 - A rare sight met the eyes of the officials and staff of the office Cachar district administration on Sunday morning. S Vishwanathan, Deputy Commissioner of Cachar, was seen cleaning the office toilet.
It is learnt that toilets and washrooms of all the Government offices of the district, schools, petrol stations, movie halls etc., were cleaned as a part of the MANSA cleanliness scheme.
Vishwanathan said that six teams were formed for the purpose who visited various locations, including Silchar Medical College and Hospital, Civil Hospital, Railway station, PHE plant etc. Officials of the education, health and various educational institutions participated in the programme.
�This is our district and our place to live. We must realise that it is our responsibility to keep the toilets clean. Community participation is the need of the hour to achieve the mission of a clean city,� Vishwanathan said.
He said that from now onwards, there will be a dedicated Safai Sevaks team in Government offices and other public places who will monitor cleanliness of the toilets, so that the urinals and washrooms are maintained in hygienic way in the district.
Meanwhile, on the sidelines of the cleanliness drive, when the Deputy Commissioner was asked about the problem of delay in garbage collection by the designated staffers of the Silchar Municipal Board, he said that the district administration will once again request the Silchar Municipal Board to accelerate the garbage collection so that the process can be completed within 9 am every day.
