Cable users sans set-top box may face action

JORHAT, June 9 - Several consumers of cable TV service of the city may face serious trouble from June 15 next if they fail to install set-top boxes at their homes, as this has been made mandatory by the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

Following directives of the Ministry, the Jorhat district administration recently directed the local cable TV operators to stop the service to those customers in the city who fail to comply with the new regulation before June 15.

During a discussion with the administration on December 30 last year, the operators had promised to complete the task of providing set-top boxes to all their customers in the city by June 15, 2016.

In the same order, the administration also directed the cable TV operators to complete the mandatory task of connecting the set-top boxes to the TV sets by December 31 next.
