Cabinet sub-panel nod to Manipuri Devp Council

GUWAHATI, Nov 13 � The long-standing demand of the United Manipuri Association, Assam for creation of a Manipuri Development Council has been approved by the development council cabinet sub-committee under the chairmanship of Revenue Minister Bhumidhar Barman in the presence of Cabinet Minister Bharat Chandra Narah, Pranab Gogoi, Ajanta Neog and other members.

The cabinet sub-committee has forwarded to the Cabinet for final consideration of a Manipuri Development Council for overall development of the backward Manipuri community of Assam.

The chief advisor of UMAA, Jiten Singha along with five other members of the organisation met the Commissioner and Secy of WPT & BC, Lonki Phangso in his chamber and the Commissioner assured that the proposed Manipuri Development Council would be formed within December 2010.

The creation of the proposed Manipuri Development Council will be announced by the Government of Assam only after full Cabinet approval as per the version of the deptt as well as of the Chief Minister�s assurance to the UMAA, a press release stated.
