NEW DELHI, Nov 25 Union Cabinet Secretary KM Chandrasekhar is arriving in State on a two-day visit of the north-eastern region tomorrow to review the progress of major infrastructure projects.

The Cabinet Secretary, who is likely to be accompanied by top officials, would take stock of implementation of mega projects including the national projects of the Railways, the East-West Corridor project, the shortage of food grains and petroleum products, and implementation of MGNREGA, among other issues, sources said.

He is likely to tour other north-eastern States during his two-day tour.

The visit comes following complaints by several State Governments of the region including Assam over inordinate delays in execution of several vital ventures like Silchar-Lumding broad gauge conversion that would eventually connect Manipur and Mizoram, besides Tripura and is part of the overall plan to connect Bangladesh and Myanmar.

Some of the other national projects including the Bogibeel bridge, the East-West Corridor have also suffered delays, leading the Chief Ministers of the region to lodge complaints.

This is the Cabinet Secretarys third visit to the region during the past two years. Last April, he led a high-level Central team to review the internal security situation.

Accompanied by Union Home Secretary Madhukar Gupta and Defence Secretary Vijay Singh, the team visited Assam, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh during the tour.

The Cabinet Secretary, accompanied by the same set of officials had visited the region first in February 2008.
