Cabinet nod to Bodo as associate official language

GUWAHATI, Dec 22 - The State cabinet today approved introduction of the Assam Official Language Amendment Bill (to replace ordinance) for the Bodo language in Devanagari script as associate official language.

A decision to the effect of land acquisition through �direct purchase� in way of negotiated settlement for improvement of State highways and major district roads under the Asom Mala Programme and EAP was also taken.

Further, in place of the Directorate of Social Welfare, two new directorates viz. �Directorate of Women and Child Development� and �Directorate of Social Justice and Empowerment� will be created.

The State cabinet also approved taking a loan of Rs 91 crore from NABARD under RIDF. It also decided to improve service benefits of NHM employees in line with SSA. �A Bill will be introduced for provincialisation of the posts of librarian in degree colleges,� an official press statement said.

The State cabinet also approved a proposal for amendment of the autonomous council Acts (Kamtapur, Motak and Moran) and setting up of the Bodo Kachari Welfare Autonomous Council.

The official press release further stated that the cabinet also approved taking over of Kokrajhar Music and Fine Arts College and Asom Sattriya Sangeet Mahavidyalaya in Jorhat. In addition to this, a decision was taken to introduce a career progression scheme for doctors serving as faculty members of medical colleges in Assam.
