GUWAHATI, Nov 9 - The State Cabinet today started the move to remove the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) chairman Rakesh Paul, who was arrested by police on charge of corrupt practices.

The Cabinet this evening decided to move the Governor for suspension of Paul, said Industries and Commerce Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary. He said that as the State Government cannot remove the chairman of the APSC, it was decided to move the Governor for necessary action. After the suspension of Paul, the Chief Minister will direct one of the members of the APSC to take over as the acting chairman till a regular appointment is made.

The Cabinet thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his bold step of demonetising Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes and the Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal requested his colleagues to follow the ideals of the Prime Minister to check corruption.

The Cabinet decided to introduce Mukhyamantrir Aranya Nirman Achoni for promotion of medicinal and other plants, besides setting up a land bank that will provide land to industrialists.

The other major decision of the Cabinet is that only ACS officers would be appointed as BDOs from now on, while, the posts of CEOs of the Zila Parishads would be brought under the Panchayat and Rural Development Department.
