GUWAHATI, Dec 13 - The State Cabinet on Sunday approved allotment of two bighas of land to the Gauhati Press Club (GPC) at Rupnagar. The land is currently under the erstwhile Assam Government Construction Company Limited.
After taking over charge in March this year, the GPC executive committee had been pressing for a permanent plot of land for the nearly 50-year-old press club, one of the oldest in the state.
The GPC had also submitted memorandums to Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Industry Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary seeking allotment of land.
Reacting to the development, GPC office bearers including president Manoj Kumar Nath and general secretary Sanjoy Ray expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister and other ministers and Media Adviser to the Chief Minister Hrishikesh Goswami.
