Cab operators memo to CM

By City Correspondent

GUWAHATI, Aug 18 - The All Assam Cab Operators Union on Tuesday sent a memorandum to Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal demanding extension of the renewal date of motor vehicle documents besides seeking an extension of the time period to repay the loans taken from financial institutions.

In the memorandum, the union stated that the lockdown since March has taken a heavy toll on the business of cab operators.

President of the cab operators body Ismail Ali said, Cab operators are daily earners. The drivers of commercial four-wheeler vehicles are now reeling under acute financial hardship. They have remained jobless for more than four months. It is a matter of grave concern as to how they will repay the loans taken from financial institutions in the wake of the coronavirus fears sweeping across the State.

He further said, We urge the CM to extend the renewal date of motor vehicle documents and increase the duration to repay the loans till March 2021.

The union also expressed great concern at the rapid increase in the prices of petrol and diesel. It appealed to the CM to take measures to control the overall price rise including prices of essential items.

We also urge the CM to ensure safety and security of the drivers of commercial vehicles, Ali added.
