By-poll date for Nagaland constituency changed

DIMAPUR, April 8 � The Election Commission of India has advanced the date for by-election to Aonglenden Assembly constituency in Nagaland by a day to May 7 following the request made by the State Government.

Informing this in a letter to the Election Office, Nagaland, the ECI said after reviewing the matter, the Commission has decided that the poll in respect of the 26 Aonglenden (ST) Assembly constituency under Mokokchung district will take place on May 7 (Saturday) in place of May 8 (Sunday). The remaining schedule and dates will remain unchanged, it added.

The Nagaland Government had written to the Commission asking that the date should either be preponed or postponed.

The Naga People�s Front, Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee as well as the Nagaland Baptist Church Council had also urged the ECI to change the poll dates.

With the announcement of the by-election to 26 Aonglenden Assembly constituency, Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer, Mokokchung, Lithrongla G Chishi has appointed officials in connection with the conduct of the by-election. Additional Deputy Commissioner and Assistant Returning Officer, R Asenla Keitzar will be in charge of appointment of polling personnel while Arikumba, EAC (Estt), will be in charge of EVM preparation/issue/receiving after polling. EAC Ongpangkong and Warren Hollohon will be in-charge of preparation/issue of postal ballot for service voters/voters on election duty/marked copy of E/Roll.
