GUWAHATI, June 24 � The Assam Literary and Journalist Pensioners� Association has described the statement of BFP MP SK Bwiswmuthiary and the Biswa Bodo Itihas Samaj as �mad outbursts of irresponsible persons without the least knowledge about Indian culture and history�.
The association, while condemning the observations of the BPF MP, appealed to the peace-loving and cultured Bodo community not to be misguided by such utterances and vitiate the atmosphere of peace and amity in the State.
The association, in its meeting held on Saturday under the presidentship of DN Chakravartty, expressed indignation at the administrative delay in implementation of the decision of the government regarding enhancement of literary pension even though the Chief Minister had announced the increase in his budget speech of last July.
The association unanimously resolved that the present system of awarding literary pension needed modification and urgently required formulation of a clear-cut pension policy so that no undeserving persons could get such benefits solely on political or some extraneous considerations.
The association requested the CM to include the association treasurer, Kanak Ch Sarma, former vice president of Asam Sahitya Sabha, as one of the members of the committee formed for selecting persons for literary pension.
The association decided to bring out a directory containing the brief bio-data of over 500 literary pensioners. The secretary of the association, Bimal Kr Hazarika, in his report, informed the meet about the cooperation received from literary pensioners of the State.
Tabiul Hussain, Dr Nishipada Choudhury, Prof Kiran Ch Sarma, Dr Deven Ch Das, Anis-uz-Zaman and Dr Lily Rajbongshi took part in the discussion. The meeting prayed for early recovery of eminent poet Hiren Bhattacharya.
