NAGAON, Aug 23 - Shrimanta Sankar Mission was the first NGO of the NE region to work for the downtrodden people of the region. Among different social activities of the Mission, the establishment of a Blind School at Barhampur was one of its important activities. Haladhar Bhuyan, Dr Lalit Kumar Borooah, Dr Hangshadhar Das and others were key persons behind the establishment of this school.
On August 16, a bust of Haladhar Bhuyan in the school premises was formally unveiled by minister Rockybul Hussain. In his speech, the minister hoped that the ideals of people like Haladhar Bhuyan will inspire the new generation.
Attending the function, Dr KK Deka, VC of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev University said that we must work to popularise Bhuyan�s ideals.
Advocate BK Monglunia was in the chair. Nagaon MLA Dr Durlov Chamua also addressed the gathering.
