Bust of Ganashilpi Moghai Oja unveiled at Jorhat

JORHAT, March 15 - In a grand celebration of Moghai Oja Divas here today, Jorhat district unit of AJYCP unveiled a bust of the legendary artiste near the city�s �people-friendly� police station who introduced and popularised dhol in the world through his unique style.

Three veteran folk artistes, namely Ranjana Sarma Bordoloi, Ambeswar Bora (popularly known as Sepeta Oja) and Punya Prabha Dutta Tamuli were also conferred Moghai Oja awards at the same function where popular singer Loknath Goswami, Sankardev Award winner Satradhikar Narayan Chandra Goswami, educationist Dr Anil Saikia and many other dignitaries were also present.

Unveiling the bust, state adviser of AJYCP Putul Dutta said that people of the state will keep Ganashilpi Moghai Oja�s contributions alive in their minds as he possessed the unique quality of popularising traditional Assamese musical instrument dhol in many countries of the globe.

AJYCP state president Biraj Kumar Talukdar and general secretary Rana Pratap Barua were also present at the programme.

Narrating the significance of the programme, AJYCP state organising secretary Siba Kalita said that the celebration of Moghai Oja Divas every year make the people conscious of their rich cultural heritage and the mesmerising performances of the people�s artiste.

�Henceforth, every visitor will have a glimpse of our popular artiste as we have installed the bust here. Everyone of us has the responsibility to keep the memory of the people�s artiste alive in our minds,� said Kalita.

In another cultural performance at the premises of Jorhat College, about 200 students of different schools and colleges presented a composite beating of dhols and taals on the occasion of Moghai Oja Divas today.

The college authority paid rich tributes to Ganashilpi Moghai Oja through this performance that kept the audience spellbound.
