By Correspondent

JORABAT, July 29 - In a sensational incident, a businessman and his driver had a narrow escape this morning when a bullet was fired on them while they were travelling to Guwahati.

Rakesh Kumar Rathi, owner of Balaji Hardwares of Morigaon and his driver were travelling in their Mahindra Jeeto (AS 21C 6772) to Guwahati, when the glass of one of the vehicles doors suddenly broke off while they were passing through Khaloibari in Khetri area on National Highway-37.

The incident prompted the driver to stop the vehicle, while they were still unaware of what actually happened.

While the driver was cleaning the glass pieces scattered inside the vehicle, he found a bullet and it was only then did they realise that they were fired upon. Realising the seriousness of the incident, they took a U-turn and rushed to the Khetri Police Station and reported the incident.

Soon after, Deputy Commissioner of Police (East), Guwahati, Subashini Sankaran along with Sonapur Assistant Commissioner of Police Abotani Doley reached the spot and took note of the incident. Investigation is on.

Meanwhile, Rathi informed the police that earlier in May, he had received a call from an unidentified person demanding money. He said he had filed a complaint in this regard at the Morigaon Police Station.

Talking to newsmen here, DCP (East) Sankaran confirmed the incident, saying We have started investigating the matter and are in contact with Morigaon police too, as a complaint was previously filed at the Morigaon Police Station.

Both Rathi and the driver have expressed suspicion that the bullet was fired from a red-coloured Alto car, which had overtaken them from the left side at the time of the incident.
