Buddha Mahotsava 2016 begins

ITANAGAR, Nov 4 - The mega tourism extravaganza, Buddha Mahotsava 2016, got off to a ceremonial start at Buddha Stadium, Bomdila in West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh today with renowned Bhojpuri singer-actor-turned-parliamentarian Manoj Tiwari inaugurating the three-day event in presence of a big gathering, including Arunachal Education Minister Honchun Ngandam, Speaker Tenzing Norbu Thongdok and Buddhist monks, among others.

The first day�s programme themed �Aurora� started with the reception of the dignitaries at Buddha Park, followed by a procession of the Buddhist monks from Buddha Park to the venue, Buddha Stadium. Earlier, the dignitaries offered khadas (traditional ceremonial scarf) to Lord Buddha. They also visited the exhibition stalls put up by various tribes.

In his address, the chief guest Manoj Tiwari said that the people of Arunachal Pradesh are very beautiful. He also promised to shoot a film in Bomdila and neighbouring Rupa. He praised the talented students of the six tribes who performed a medley dance. He also entertained the audience with a rendition of the patriotic song, �Aye Mere Watan Ke Logo�, followed by the popular number �Jiyo ho Bihar ke Lala�.

A performance of the famous �Snow Lion dance� was followed by Chin folk dance by Sartang tribe. There were also performances of Yak dance by Monpa tribe followed by Laoganga folk dance by Shertukpens, group dances by Khampti, Aka, Miji tribes and Ejangso folk dance by Bugun tribe.
