Bud CC emerge champions

GUWAHATI, Feb 28 - Bud Cricket Club (Red) lifted the 14th Bud Challenge Cricket Tournament title for the Jugal Kishore Newatia Trophy defeating City Cricket Club by 67 runs in the final at the MDSA Stadium in Mangaldoi on Sunday.

Bud CC (Red) electing to bat were all out for 184 runs in 39.5 overs. Gokul Sharma top scored with 36 runs off 54 deliveries including a hit to the fence while Tarjinder Singh contributed 30 runs off 43 balls with two boundaries. Sarupam Purkayastha chipped in with 24 runs off 36 deliveries which featured five boundaries. For City Cricket Club, Kalyan Gogoi claimed four wickets for 36 runs in 7.5 overs while Sekaharjyoti Barman bagged two wickets for 35 runs in eight overs. Raj Agarwal scalped one wicket for 30 runs in his eight overs.

Chasing the target, City Cricket Club were bundled out for 117 runs in 35.4 overs with Manashjyoti Gogoi top scoring with 45 runs off 83 balls with four hits to the fence while Bastav Hazarika contributed 21 runs off 29 balls which featured a boundary and a six. Gokul Sharma was the pick of the bowlers for Bud CC (Red) with a haul of three wickets for 28 runs in eight overs while Rahul Singh and Sarupam Purkayastha bagged two wickets each.

Gokul Sharma of Bud CC (Red) was awarded the Late Anupam Das Memorial man of the final trophy.

Other prizes: Best Fielder in memory of Suniti Talukdar: Manash Das (City CC); Best Wicket Keeper in memory of Subhash Agarwal: Kunal Saikia (Bud CC, Red); Best Bowler in memory of Tarulata Das: Raj Agarwal (City CC); Best Batsman: Manashjyoti Gogoi (City CC); Man of the Series in memory of Aftabur Rahman (Jaan): Sarupam Purkayastha (Bud CC, Red). Promising players of the tournament: Chinmoy Sarma (City CC), Atish Prasad (Bud CC), Shivam Mittal (Santipur AC), Samriddh Deka (Mangaldoi) and Santanu Dhar (Maharana Athletic Club).
