BTR panel members receive warm welcome

TEZPUR, Oct 2 - The ABSU Sonitpur and Biswanath district committees along with the common people accorded a warm welcome to the Commission formed for an amicable settlement of issues arising outside the BTR.

It is worth mentioning that in pursuance of clauses 3.1 of the Memorandum of Settlement (MoS) signed on January 27, 2020 by the Government of India, the Assam government, ABSU and NDFB, the Governor constituted a Commission under the Sixth Schedule to the Constitution of India taking PP Verma, retired IAS officer as chairman, BTC administrator Rajesh Prasad, ABSU vice president Jayanta Basumatary and Dalim Bayon, convenor of the Udalgiri Chapter of Red Cross Society, as members for alteration of the area of BTAD, which looks after the issue of inclusion and exclusion of areas concerned into the BTR.

Jayanta Basumatary and Dalim Bayon accompanying ABSU adviser Khwngkhra Swargiary and other central executives Ratendra Daimary, Khwrwmdaw Wary, Abit Narzary, Rajesh Boro and Birdaw Basumatary held a series of public meetings at Gohpur (Barpukhuri), under Biswanath district, Rangapara, Silikhabari and Batachipur in Sonitpur district where they interacted with the people.

In Silikhabari area under Thelamara PS, the team was felicitated by several organisations.

Bayon said the BTR Accord is a historic treaty which has been able to bring a permanent peace solution to the long-pending Bodo and other tribal people�s issues, thereby fulfilling the hopes and aspirations of all people living in and outside the BTR.

Jayanta Basumatary said many tribal and Bodo villages were left out in the last two accords, including the BAC and the BTAD giving rise to grievances among the people. �However, BTR will fulfill the hopes and aspirations of these people as per the clauses mentioned in the accord.
