TEZPUR, Oct 1 - State Health and Education Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sharma today said the BTC elections which were postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic would be held by December this year.
Dr Sharma who visited Chardwar under Sotea LAC for inaugurating a physical fitness centre told the media persons that an all-party meeting will be held on October 6 for taking a Cabinet decision in this regard on October 7.
�Postponement or not going for the polls is not a political matter, it is rather an unwanted issue occurred due to the COVID-19 pandemic which has crippled the world community,� he said.
Dr Sharma said if everything remains good during October and November, then the BTC elections will surely be held in December.
He also said due to Clause 6 of the Assam Accord, genuine Indian Nepalis living in the region for decades wouldn�t have to worry.
Stating that schools and colleges will resume from November, he hoped that the number of COVID-19 cases will come down at the end of October. He also said the probe into the anomalies in the appointment of police sub-inspectors is on the right track due to the Chief Minister's timely action and by November 30, an error-free examination for the same will be held.
