BTC panel will monitor project implementation: Boro

GUWAHATI, Dec 17 - The new body of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) will form a vigilance committee to keep a close watch on implementation of all the projects, said the Chief of the Council, Promod Boro.

Talking to The Assam tribune, Boro said according to reports available with him, very often, fund flow to the BTC was delayed because of the failure of the Council to submit utilization certificates. It seriously affected implementation of the projects. He said from now on, the Council would try to ensure that the utilization certificates of the funds received from the Central and State Governments are submitted on time. In this regard, the vigilance committee would keep a close watch on the expenditures regularly, he added.

Boro said a Bodoland Transformation Committee comprising experts would also be formed to advise the Council on various projects. He said COVID-19 pandemic slowed down implementation of various schemes in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) and efforts would now be made to complete the ongoing projects within the stipulated time.

Boro said the first meeting of the new executive committee of the BTC would be held next week to chalk out strategies and plans for the days ahead. He said that all the departments of the BTC have already been instructed to prepare detailed presentations of the schemes implemented so far and money spent on it.

The departments have also been directed to prepare developmental schemes. He said that on Wednesday he had preliminary discussion with senior officers of Assam government on ensuing regular flow of funds to the BTC.

Replying to a question on keeping the newly elected councilors of the United People�s Party Liberal (UPPL), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Gana Suraksha Party (GSP) in a hotel here, Boro said that some members were feeling a bit insecure. �Even I was attacked on the eve of the second phase of polls. That is why, some members felt a bit insecure and we decided to keep them in Guwahati for a few days. But they have started returning to their constituencies. We had discussions with senior police officers and they assured full security to all elected members,� he said.

Boro also said that the Deputy Chief of the BTC and three other executive members attended office today and he would start sitting in BTC headquarter from tomorrow.
