KALAIGAON, June 16 - Police arrested Suresh Tanti, BTC MCLA and one Sanjoy Anthony, for the death of two Adivasis, who were allegedly tortured to death at Bhutiachang tea garden in Udalguri district on Friday night.
Sona Pator (30), father of three children, and Kanhaiya Bhukta (35), father of four, were last night picked up by some miscreants, who alleged that the two had stolen money from Suresh Tanti some days back. The two Adivasis were taking to a house, where some people beat them up throughout the night until they died.
Later, the body of Sona Pator was thrown in front of his house at Bhutiachang TE Old Line, while Kanhaiya�s body was thrown in the Bhutiachang market.
According to family members, the two were tortured on the direction of Suresh Tanti.
Talking to this correspondent, Rakesh Roshan, Superintendent of Police, Udalguri said, �We will not hesitate to take action against anybody in this incident and if found guilty, all will be put behind bars, irrespective of their social and political status,� the SP said.
Meanwhile, Ulaguri DC Sadhana Hojai has put all civil and police officials on alert and requested the people not to be carried away by rumours.
