KOKRAJHAR, Sept 27 - A delegation representing different socio-cultural organisations of BTC met Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Saturday and impressed upon him for holding the general election to the 4th Legislative Assembly of BTC within October next.

The team was led by the former Lok Sabha MP and chief of the Convenors Committee for the Conventions of the former ABSU fraternity and the Bodo Civil Society, Sansuma Khunggur Bwiswmuthiary. Dr Mangalsing Hajowary, adviser of the Bodo Writers Academy, Biswa Kumar Brahma, former president of All Bodo Farmers Association, Billa Basumatary, former president of Dularai Harimu Afat, DD Narzary, former finance secretary of ABSU, Sukumar Basumatary, president of the BTADs co-ordination committee of the Tribal Sangha, among others, also attended the meeting.

The team urged the Chief Minister not to extend the period of Governors Rule in BTAD beyond October 27 next on the pretext of the situation arising out of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Talking to mediapersons at the Kokrajhar Press Club, former Lok Sabha MP Sansuma Khunggur Bwiswmuthiary, who led the delegation said that holding general election to the 4th BTC Legislative Assembly within October was a legitimate demand of the people of the region.

Since the last five months of Governors Rule, the prospect of overall doomsday in the sphere of development and welfare on all fronts within BTAD has loomed large. As on today, no developmental and welfare activity has been carried out by any line department of BTC, Bwiswmuthiary said.

He also criticised the state Governor and Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma for renaming BTAD to BTR, which he termed as illegal and gross violation of the model code of conduct.

He also stated that the Governor had no constitutional power in this regard.
