BTAD bandh hits normal life in Kokrajhar, Gossaigaon

KOKRAJHAR, Oct 14 - The 12-hour BTAD bandh call given by the All Bengali Yuba Chatra Federation (ABYSF) in protest against non recovery of a kidnapped person, namely Pradip Shil, who was kidnapped from Serfanguri Bazar in Kokrajhar on September 27 last by unknown miscreants, hits normal life in Kokrajhar today.

The bandh was total. All shops and business establishments, financial and educational institutions remained closed during the bandh period. Vehicles were also off the roads. No untoward incident was reported till the filing of this report.

Meanwhile, the UPPL president and former MP, UG Brahma today urged the Government to ensure the safety and security of the people in general and strong action against those anti-social elements who are committing such crimes. He also appealed to all concerned to maintain peace and tranquility in the region. He also said that the incident of kidnapping was an act of a cruel mind and an attempt to jeopardise the peace process in BTAD area which has already progressed a long way.

ANN Service adds from Gossaigaon: The All Bengali Yuba Chatra Federation (ABYSF)-called 12-hour BTAD against the non recovery of one Pradip Shil, a motorcycle mechanic of Serfanguri under Kokrajhar district, evoked full response here.

It may be mentioned that two motorcycle-borne youths on September 27 last came to his garage and on the plea of getting their motorcycle repaired took Pradip with them and later they claimed that he had been abducted and reportedly demanded Rs 60 lakh from his family for his release. A resident of Tamarhat, Shil had only got married last year and has a child.

Police investigation is on for his safe release. His poor and aged father and his wife have also appealed to the abductors to release him, but the abductors have not heeded to it. The ABYSF called the bandh today which got full response from all sections of people.
