BSNL to launch next-gen network

SHILLONG, April 23 � The �next-gen network� would be launched by Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) in Meghalaya on April 30 and 4,000 users would be benefitted.

The network upgrade would improve the present broadband connectivity in terms of quality. Initially, this facility would be made available to 4,000 users in the State Capital, BSNL NE 1 Circle additional general manager, N Sujatha said.

The facility is being launched in Tripura and the users in Agartala would be able to use the facility from May 1. BSNL NE 1 Circle covers Meghalaya, Mizoram and Tripura.

Under the new facility, call rate would remain unchanged, except when downloading video, picture and data. The telephone number and billing cycle would also remain unaffected.

To further increase the number of landline users, BSNL would offer free calls between 9 pm and 7 am for landline users from April 30.

PTI adds:Meanwhile, BSNL optical lines suffered major snaps at two locations in Assam yesterday affecting telephone and internet services in Meghalaya, Mizoram, Tripura but the lines have been restored, officials said today.

The Guwahati-Kolkata line got snapped near Siliguri while the Shillong-Guwahati 10 GB line got snapped at a location ahead of Khanapara in Assam yesterday afternoon, BSNL transmission (NE 1) division engineer Santanu Ghosh said.

He said the Power Grid-owned Guwahati-Kolkata line got snapped due to bad weather conditions while the BSNL line connecting Shillong and Guwahati got snapped due to an accident. � PTI
