MANGALDAI, June 26 - Just after Gurujyoti Das, a totally new face in the political arena got elected to the Assam Assembly from the prestigious Mangaldai LAC on a BJP ticket, some antisocial elements have allegedly started threatening a section of government officials and staff, traders and contractors and are also demanding money for party activities in the name of MLA Das.
In one such incident on Saturday, the police arrested one casual employee of the BSNL, Sub Division office, Mangaldai identified as Sartaz Ahmed (38) on charges of demanding a sum of Rs 30,000 from an employee of the District Transport Office, Darrang over phone posing himself to be MLA Das. According to the FIR lodged by one Dulal Kalita of Bharatiya Jatiya Yuva Marcha, the accused after demanding the money using the land line no 03713 222187 BSNL office on Thursday went to the DTO office to collect it on Friday. On suspicion, the staff of the DTO office interrogated him and detained him to be handed over to the police. However, he managed to escape before the arrival of the police. On getting the information, the BJP worker lodged a police complaint which registered a case (No. 473 / 16) U/S 417 / 419 / 387 IPC and arrested the accused person.
