BSNL engineer shot dead in Dimapur

DIMAPUR, March 2 � Unidentified gunmen shot dead a BSNL engineer at his residence at Naga Gaon here at around 9 pm on Sunday. The victim identified as GM Rongmei was the sub-divisional engineer of BSNL posted in Zunheboto.

A day after the incident, police investigators remained unable to ascertain the motive behind the incident.

Additional SP and PRO of Dimapur told this correspondent on Monday that no arrest has been made in the case so far even as police are examining all angles leading to the killing. He said police are not able to take any statement of the family members of the victim as they are still in a state of shock.

The PRO said police are investigating the case and are trying to find out whether personal enmity was the cause behind the target killing.

Sources said two motor-cycle borne assailants went to Rongmei�s residence and called him out. While one of them was waiting outside, the other went inside and then shot him at point blank range. The engineer was hit by the bullet on the face and died on the spot.

Rongmei�s niece, identified as Rajni, who had accompanied the victim after he was called out, was also shot on the leg.

Both were rushed to a nearby private hospital where Rongmei was declared dead on arrival by the doctors. The victim�s niece was being treated at the hospital, family sources said.
