BSF emerge champs in Police Hockey

GUWAHATI, March 26 � Border Security Force (BSF) clinched the title in the All India Police Hockey Championship with a 2-1 victory against Punjab in the final played today at the Maulana Md Tayabulla Hockey Stadium here.

Mandeep Singh (Jr) and Saranjit Singh scored field goals for the winning team in the 12th and the 49th minutes, while Jugraj Singh converted a penalty corner in the 61st minute to reduce the margin.

It was keenly- contested encounter and both the teams adopted attacking tactics from the word go. But the BSF men were better in speed and their attackers penetrated through the Punjab defence quite frequently.

Saranjit Singh of BSF was adjudged best player of the tournament while World Cup player Sandeep Singh, who scored 14 goals, received the highest scorer award. Haryana came third defeating CISF 4-3 in the play off match.
