AGARTALA, Nov 25 - A three-day border coordination conference of the Inspectors General, BSF, and the Region Commanders, BGB, commenced at the BSF Tripura Frontier headquarters here today. The meet will end on November 27. The Indian delegation is being headed by the IG, BSF Tripura Frontier, Susanta Kumar Nath. Sunil Kumar, Inspector General, BSF Mizoram and Cachar Frontier, Hardeep Singh, Inspector General, BSF Meghalaya Frontier, and other senior BSF officers have joined the strategic security meeting.
The Bangladesh delegation is being headed by Khondoker Farid Hassan, Additional Director General, Region Commander, South-East Region, Chattogram. It also comprises officers from the Border Guard Bangladesh, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Home Affairs, Bangladesh. India and Bangladesh share a common history, and cultural, social and ethnic links, besides sharing a 4,096 km long international border. The relations between the two countries are currently very amicable and friendly.
Both the border guarding forces � BSF and BGB � also share a cordial relationship. The conference will seek to strengthen these ties by addressing border issues and matters of bilateral interest like trans-border crimes including smuggling of contraband items, pending development works, construction of a single-row fence along the Indo-Bangladesh international boundary and the Coordinated Border Management Plan.
It may be noted that the last such coordination conference was held at the Tripura BSF Frontier here in 2018.
