Brown sugar factory busted in Manipur

IMPHAL, June 29 - In one of the biggest drug hauls in Manipur, a combined team of the Narcotics Affairs of Border (NAB) and the Thoubal Police busted a brown sugar factory in Thoubal district, and seized drugs worth over one billion rupees in the international market today.

Addressing a press conference here, NAB SP W Basu said that a combined team of the NAB and Thoubal Police busted a brown sugar factory at the residence of one Md Matalip of Lilong Dam in Thoubal district.

The team seized 111.915 kg of brown sugar from the factory, he added. Three persons � Md Matalip (40), his wife Samim Pusam (35), and Md Serajuddin Mohammad � have been arrested in this connection.

Chemicals, equipment and other tools used in the manufacture of brown sugar were recovered from the factory site, a press release stated. The seized drugs are worth over Rs 100,000,0000 (rupees one billion) in the international market, the release added. A case has been registered at the NAB Police Station and further investigation is on.

Meanwhile, in a similar incident on Friday, a NAB team arrested three persons for illegal possession of more than 5 kg of opium worth more than Rs 5 lakh in the international market, from Hongkhong Veng village, Sugnu area, NAB sources said. The arrested persons are Paosienlal Tungdim (32), Mangnu Tungdim (55) and Aaron Nangsha (37).
