IMPHAL, May 16 - The Assam Rifles has apprehended an alleged drug smuggler carrying brown sugar worth Rs 1.16 crore at the Permanent Vehicle Check Post, Khudengthabi.

According to Assam Rifles sources, the check post is located about 100 km south of Imphal along Imphal-Moreh road under Tengnoupal district of Manipur bordering Myanmar.

On Tuesday, a team of Assam Rifles stopped an autorickshaw, without registration number, which was moving from Moreh to Khudengthabi, Assam Rifles said in a release.

On carrying out a check of the vehicle, 42 packets of orange-coloured powder suspected to be brown sugar and weighing approximately 582 gms was found hidden inside the body of the autorickshaw. The approximate cost of the brown sugar is Rs 1.16 crore, it added.
