�Broadcasters need to adopt new technologies�

DIBRUGARH, Feb 14 - The Deputy Director General of Prasar Bharati, Deepak Joshi today stressed upon adopting emerging new technologies like artificial intelligence, data analytics and even the social media in broadcasting for relevance, acceptance and continuity in today�s context.

Delivering the golden jubilee lecture on �Broadcasting on the new vistas: Challenges and Opportunities�� at the concluding function of the year-long celebration of All India Radio station here, Joshi said that paradigm shift is required in the way broadcasting is being conventionally done. �The path breaker will be the extensive usage of artificial intelligence technology and data analytics. Artificial intelligence mechanism to know the choice of viewers and listeners and satisfying their specific programme needs more efficiently. Data analytics will help in getting the automated factual correct feed back about the programmes played and services offered to the viewers and listeners,� he said.

Referring to the public service broadcasters, Joshi said that policy makers will have to take a call on the role of public service broadcasters. Profit cannot be the motive of public service broadcasters. However, they cannot continue to run as a loss making entity for ever. A balanced blend of earning own operational cost augmented by funding by the state to meet the mandate of the public service broadcasting may be the ideal solution, he opined.

The golden jubilee lecture was attended among others by noted writer Dr Nagen Saikia, Rajeev Baruah, Deputy Director, AIR, Deben Basumatary, Advisor and Consultant, AIR, Northeast.

The grand finale of Lokasangeet Madhuri-Season III, the ongoing musical reality show of Kamrupiya and Goalporiya Lokageet was also organized in the evening.

The three-day closing ceremony of the year-long golden jubilee celebration got off yesterday with a conference of the retired and working AIR Officials. Several retired officers, star broadcaster of yesteryears and employees participated in this �Milan Samaroh� conference. Former Station Director of AIR ,Dibrugarh and Guwahati, Lutfur Rahman took part in the conference and exhorted the new generation to work hard to be a good broadcaster. Station Director of AIR Guwahati Dilip Kumar Das , Former Station Directors of AIR, Guwahati, Dinesh Das, Surya Das and retired officers, employees from engineering and administrative sections of Air Dibrugarh also took part in the conference.

Veteran broadcasters of yesteryears shared their varied experience of working in AIR, Dibrugarh with the audience and listeners.
