GUWAHATI, Nov 9 South Asia Curator of the British Museum Richard Burton will soon visit the heritage sites of the State, including Majuli. On that occasion, the State government will hold a function here on the Vrindabani vastra to facilitate screening of the video films prepared on this historical piece of cloth, along with its photographs, said an official press release here quoting Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi.
The Chief Minister visited the Textile Store of the British Museum in London during his recent visit to the United Kingdom to have a glimpse of the famous piece of cloth produced by the weavers of the State under the guidance of Srimanta Sankaradeva, the founder of Assamese Vaishnavism, around five centuries back.
Burton told Gogoi that the piece of cloth was handed over to the British Museum authorities by a journalist of The London Times, who collected it from Tibet, Burton also told Gogoi of the matchless technique used in preparing that piece of cloth.
