Briefing of poll officials

ITANAGAR, Nov 28 - The State Election Commission (SEC) of Arunachal Pradesh held a meeting to brief election observers appointed for the ensuing panchayat and municipality elections in the State here on Friday.

The rural and urban bodies polls will be held simultaneously on December 22. Counting of votes will take place on December 26.

State Election Commissioner Hage Kojeen said that efforts must be made to create a level playing field, while noting that the poll observers are the eyes and ears of the SEC.

Asserting that the basic mandate of the Commission has been to conduct local body elections in a free, fair and peaceful manner, he said that the poll observers are expected to provide direct inputs to the Commission regarding proper implementation of various election processes, including the model code of conduct.

State Nodal Officer (COVID-19) Dr Lobsang Jampa explained the SOP on COVID-19 issued by the SEC in addition to the existing guidelines of the State and Central governments.

As many as 35 election observers attended the meeting.
