Bridge on Doomdooma-Baghjan road collapses

DOOMDOOMA, June 24 - Due to incessant rain that has been pouring since Tuesday evening, flood waters coming out of all the water bodies of Doomdooma circle have inundated many places here. A bridge over a stream near Rupai Tea Estate on Doomdooma-Baghjan Road collapsed on Wednesday due to the floods. Tinsukia DSP Bitul Chetia had a narrow escape as he had crossed the bridge just a moment before it collapsed.

Communication between Doomdooma and Baghjan area was severely affected due to the collapse of the bridge. It would also affect the process of dousing the fire of the burning gas well at BGR- 5 in Duliajan. The Circle Officer of Doomdooma Revenue Circle, Nandita Roy Gohain, told this correspondent that the engineers of the PWD have already reached the site.

Another bridge over Beesakopie stream, situated near Rupbon on Doomdooma-Baghjan road, is also in a dangerous condition.

Meanwhile, incessant rain that has been pouring for the last 24 hours in the entire Tinsukia district as well as the dawn-to-dusk Tinsukia district bandh call given by ATTSA, AASAA and ACMS in protest against the murder of a night chowkidar of Betjan TE of Makum by a group of thieves, brought the normal life of the district to a standstill on Wednesday.
